Snowy day and the Sleepy-Eye bed
Yesteday was a beautiful snowy day, our first real one this year. Everything was covered in white, and the dog loved hopping through the snow like a funny snow bunny. Where did January go? I guess I slept through most of it. Someday soon I hope that my head will shrink back to normal, and I can quit taking bottles of mucinex. In the meantime, time to get up. There’s a lot that has to be...
Read MoreThe Velcro-neutralizer
If I was a genius, I’d invent silent Velcro. To avoid that embarrassment of opening my new laptop bag in a quiet place, making that horrible rrrriiipp noise. Here’s another use: too many zipper and velcro noises in short time cause anxiety in my dog, who realizes that this maybe an indication of packing for a long trip. Probably scares cats and birds too. I have the technlogy to cut...
Read MoreIt’s a new day
will.i.am has new song out for the inauguration of President Obama today, but I still like this one from the election season last fall. Update: Did this other version of New Day — just fooling around trying out different...
Read MoreI dream of genie and other little critters
Sketchbooks of different sizes and proportions seem to inspire different types of drawing. I have lots of different sketchbooks going at once and there is no rhyme or reason. This are some more free-association drawings done in the evenings and early morning. No deep meaning, just drawing and coloring whatever comes to...
Read MoreThe Banana Pose is in American Style!
Hey, there’s my quilt on page 58 of the January-February issue of American Style magazine. Yay, AmStyle did a big big section on “studio quilts” and artists, and Martha Sielman executive director of SAQA mentioned my work in her interview. Thanks Martha! This quilt is called “Yoga 101: The Banana Split Pose,” and there’s also a great photo that Russ took of me...
Read MoreOh no, another moth-eaten sweater
Code name for this project is “Moth Eaten”, sounds like it would be a good spooky movie, eh? But actually the full name is “Oh No, Another Moth Eaten Sweater†and it’s only 12“ x 12â€. I made it for Art Gallery in a Box that will be auctioned at the next Quilt National banquet to raise money for Studio Art Quilt Associates. There are eleven other artists...
Read MoreHelp for high waters
It’s hard to take a photo of your own ankles. I finally did this one by sitting down on the floor. Do they still call them high-waters? These aren’t capris, just petites with an extra P which also means cold ankles in winter. December brought lots of painting deadlines, but also the realization that my paint pants were too short. So I found some vintage ribbon in a box and sewed it...
Read MoreCreativity as a new focus
< portfolio cover – back > If only in my own mind, I’ve decided to reframe the focus of my blog. Originally I called it my “Art Adventure Blog†and decided to post mainly art-related articles, projects, and photos. That was four years and 462 posts ago. (which reminds me that I need to figure out what to do about that crazy-long archive list in my sidebar) But...
Read MoreSome of my favorite organizational tools
Usually I take a stab at re-organization at various times throughout the year, not just at the New Year. But this seems like a good time to mention my favorites. (Sorry PC users, but I think these are all mac-only programs. Although I still use a desktop PC, my main laptop is a Mac.) • OmniFocus – fluid to-do list and multi-step project organizer. After a brief love affair with...
