Japan Journal

We’re just back from Isesaki, our Sister City in Japan. Besides official city events, we were able to squeeze in a trip to snow-covered mountains to visit Nikko, tour an unusual ceramics museum, have a night out at a karoke box, visit Tokyo, and stay in a Japanese family’s home.  Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sorting the photos, video and drawings from the trip. Fiberarts International 2010

I just shipped a quilt to the Fiberart International 2010. This exhibition will feature 87 works of art that were selected from submissions by 703 artists from 30 countries — so I’m very excited to included in this group. The show will open April 16th at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and runs through August 22, 2010. From there it will travel to the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester and the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design.

Books to inspire creativity

Check out these two books that came out in October 2009 that feature some of my artwork along with a lot of other great and inspiring artists…

CreativeTime-Amazon_thCreative Time and Space: Making Room for Making Art

by Ricë Freeman-Zachery, published by North Light Books 2009 – Features some of my quilts, drawings, sketchbooks, photos of studio, and ideas for inspiring creativity. Ricë worked really hard at getting a ton of information out of the 12 artists who participated in this project. The book is densley layered with many photos of art and information about things like managing your creative time, setting up a good space to create, and making art while traveling.

Quilting-Art-Amazon_thQuilting Arts: Inspiration, Ideas, and Innovation from 20 Contemporary Quilters

by Spike Gillespie, published by Voyageur Press 2009 – Features a lot of great photos of my quilts and stories about when Spike and Ori came to visit Russ and Pam, and we all went water skiing. Also great photos and artistic advice from many other contemporary artists, including my friends from the Distinctive Directions group.

Quilt National 2009

is still traveling. When I get a chance, I’ll look up where three different exhibition sections are headed and post that information. You can also see the all the art in Quilt National book by Lark Books

More than 80 Inspiring Creations

Although I didn’t get to make to the Dairy Barn this year for the opening, but now the full show has moved to the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, and I will be there on Thursday, October 8 for an artist’s luncheon talk and walking tour of Quilt National 2009. I was happy this edition, because although my artist’s statement for the show and book was only one sentence long, it was featured on the back cover.
